Beginner's Corner

  • November has arrived! In my game I want to move to Gotenborg in early November to get LM. In order to do that I have to raise 1Million GS and keep the rest of my Hanse running. :eek2: Well, I narrowed it down to two choices: manual arbitrage or find another way. I tried the arbitrage method but I found that the timing really interferes with a lot of other things going on in the game. :tong: I can now see the advantage to piling up the cash early for flexibility later in the game. By the way, the hot keys method is great for filling in the lag time when you are waiting for the next event to happen. Thanks for that tip. Anyhow, I decided to try the raiding again. First town- yeilded 450K. :D The town coffer was only 30K but my goods sales and then re-aquisition worked fine. I resupplied the trading office and moved on. After the raid, no change in the satisfaction levels, they were low already. I was amazed to see that 2 days after the raid, the levels started coming up! :170: Testing has shown me that the next 2 raids should yeild well over 600K per raid with the same results in satisfaction. :giggle: So I've decided to keep this going to see what happens. It looks like I'll have the money to move, and some extra GSto boot!
Where does that 1M go anyhow? ?(

The plan is that after the raiding, there will be a star burst effect from Gotenborg to the hanse with over 10,000 goods beginning their journey on a regular distribution schedule. I think I will have just enough ships to make it happen.

The bricks are piling up! Bergen, Bremen and Hamburg are up to speed and bricks are available for use. Oslo is under development but has lagged behind the growth of others for various reasons. Ladoga is poised to build the eastern Hanse. A convoy will begin supplying those towns that need an increase in Merchant and Gable houses. Also, Whalers, Meat and Beer will finally get underway. 5 IG are already underway. Most towns are over 80% wells and roads. 3 Med trips have returned but I will crank those convoy's up to 4-5 ships each when the ships become available to maximise the trips.

Q-Does the distance travelled to a town in the Med have a realtionship to the price you pay for a good? I ask that beause I've never gotten this far in a game before!

As a matter of fact, I took down a 2 ship pirate convoy with my own 2 ship convoy, all ships remained above 90%, and I had never done that before either! :]

Now I've got to figure out those supply convoys! :170:

Not into the coffers since a raid shortly after the move netted less than 300k.

    Nop, no relationship.

  • "Not into the coffers since a raid shortly after the move netted less than 300k."

Was that the town you came from or moved to?

I can try it with the town I'm moving to, but I've just raided London and I'd have to wait a month.

BTW Kinda funny, over 50% of my fleet is in this one convoy! 8,000+ barrels :rotfl:

  • It was the town I moved to. The town I left had precious little in their coffers since I decided I needed some pettycash to pay for this and that en route. :D

  • I had a fugitive escort mission from Ladoga to Stettin. I was in a crayer, attacked by a holk, 54men, 74% health. During the initial attack, I landed two volleys on him. He was down to 60 something in health. When the next volley hit him, he went to 0% but still afloat, still had 50 men. No way I could board him to capture him, so I hit him again and he went to Davey Jones's locker. I reloaded 3 times with the same result. Has anyone else every seen this happen? ?(

  • Yes, plenty of times. It seems to be on a timer; the target ship goes to 0 health a certain time after the battle starts regardless of what you do. And even if you do capture the ship, it disappears post-battle. :tong:

I've never worked out what causes this; I just live with it when it appears. I had it occur a lot more in 1300 than 1301 though (actually can't recall any occurances in 1301, but there might have been an odd one or two).

  • It is a bug! There are allways two escort missions in Patrican III. If during a battle the other escort mission ends (the other ship is reaching the harbour), the program sets all created pirates to 0%. This means the pirate wich you are fighting against and the other pirate witch is eventually an the map because your are escaped.
I hope you can understand what I want to say. If not, show in the german part of the forum. This bug is named "Asterix-Pirat".

  • Thanks! :170:

Yes, it's very clear; and I had no idea before. It also explains why I saw it more in 1300 - I was doing more escorts then so had more chance of them finishing with bad timing.

  • In the commentary section of games submitted for review, this comment was made concerning WASA's submission:
"With the destruction of 6 notorious pirates between December 21st and 31st, the writing is on the wall."

My question is how do you do that? How do you get to see that many pirates in so short a time? I have only seen 1 pirate at a time leaving a nest and never have I seen 2 or more from nests on the screen at a time. Are these aldermen mission pirates found elsewhere? ?(

  • These are completions of AM missions. The trick to get as many as possible in a short period is to "feed" them. I.e. accept a tavern mission to revenge somebody's brother. Send a hulk full of timber to the location and follow with a hunter. The pirate will attack the holk and plunder it. That slows him down and, after waiting a few clicks you will find the mission to destroy this particular notorious pirate. I believe the record to complet 3 missions was 4 days.

  • @ Man of the C

I must say, you are very curios ;).

In this case, the translation is not correct ( I beg your pardon, bizpro ): I have entered the following pirates:
    - 21.11: Pirat from Königsberg
    - 21.11.: Pirat from Flensburg
    - 6.12.: Pirat from Tönsberg
And the same 24 days later.

Correctly the period of time is 21.11. - 30.12.1300.

  • My bad, we are allowed to make "finger" errors. So, what took you so long :wave2:

However, that does not change the root of the question: How can you destroy a lot of notorious pirates over a short period of time? And one of the tricks is as described in my post.

  • Bizpro once wrote me that there are no stupid questions. OK.
    Besides the time and probable language difference, could an english speaker play on the german MP game? (maybe you would be seen as an explorer from the new world trying to communicate with the natives of the land :giggle:}

How good of an internet connection do you need?

What does one need to host an MP game?

Are there any New World people besides me who would like to experience MP game?

  • @ Man of the C

I have never played an MP game. In regard to your question if P II Gold and P III are comptabile in an online game, that should be tried.

I have P II Gold and an extreme speed cable connection that should be adequate to host an MP game. We could try it later this month - [OT] I am still trying to recover from tax season. Due to the increased tardyness of most of my clients I am developpping a new fee structure for next year. Anybody who delivers prior to March 31 pays normal fees. April 1 - 10 125%, April 11 - 20 150% and after that 200%. Everybody else gets OT rates at higher than normal rates. so why should I work 18+ hours a day for basic fees ?( Considering that a dogwalker gets $30/hour I am not charging enough.[ /OT] :D

  • My schedule is very flexible at the moment. Some on the TSR might join a clean game. Personally, I'm not looking for a long game, just the chance to experiance it. I was going to try to figure out how to join a German game just so I could watch the action and play a bit. I'm sure my abiltiy to read German would get better. At work, some of my younger employees were really into the Battlefield 1941 MP game and they wanted me to play with them. 8 guys at a time on a city map hunting each other down. I logged in and called myself BIG TARGET and I had a blast. :)

Re tax rates - increase your rates 10% more, then give a 10% rebate to those who submit prior to March 31. More will submit because they will be motivated by the rebate :]

$30 hr per dog? I need to look into walking dogs..... :giggle:

  • Too late, the new rate schedule already went out to everybody :D

I'll email you once I am free and then we try P II Gold vs P III

  • I know, I know... there are many old posts on this forum, and I have only just fired up this old classic of a game over the last few months... What have I been missing!! ?(

I have to say that I am finding it very addictive, and am loving the games' re-playability and endless options. The learning curve is immense, but I feel it will be worth the perseverance never the less.
As a beginner, I have been reading the various threads on this excellent forum, but find a lot of the content is for the more advanced player (due to the game being a classic no doubt).

Are there any players that are willing to share an optimum price list for buying and selling goods at Patrician level for use in the game.

I noticed Bizpro has included a list for some items, but it is incomplete, and having tried some of Bizpros pricing on goods I found that stock levels were easier to maintain.
This leads to my request that a complete list would be priceless.

I appreciate any help in advance, and realise that many of the old players may not be active on this forum, however, I have my fingers crossed you are still out there and willing to help a beginner
    Thanks in advance :170:

  • Hi Captain Lorenzo,

    Welcome to the board!

An optimum price does not really exist, it always depends on the situation at the (local) market, the partition of the population and many other things. Nevertheless you may have a look at our tipp-collection which you can find at the top of the board (compare the attached screenshot). Although the tipp-collection is available in German only it may help you, especially have a look at page 71 (PDF 2010). ;)
